SMOKY CHIPOTLE:

DELICIOUS: The typical southwestern seasonings of our Smoky Chipotle Black Beans and Rice might remind you of a spicy burrito. The word chipotle comes from Nahuatl, the language of the Aztecs who lived in what is now Mexico.  It means smoked chili, which gives the products its distinctive spicy kick! Fantastic and satisfying as-is or mixed with tomato, avocado, radish or shredded cabbage.  Our Smoky Chipotle Black Beans and Rice makes a great instant burrito or taco salad.

CURRIED TURMERIC:

DELICIOUS: Our Curried Turmeric Lentils and Rice was inspired by the legendary curries of India.  It is a colorful blend of brown lentils, red bell peppers, green flecks of spinach and distinctive bright yellow rice colored by turmeric.  Turmeric has been studied extensively for its health benefits such as improving memory, arthritis, depression and reducing inflammation. Our Curried Turmeric Lentils and rice is excellent with fruits such as raisins, dried mango or chopped fresh apple, pear or plum.  Or try adding some cashews, cilantro, unsweetened yogurt, or roasted cauliflower.

COWBOY BBQ:

DELICIOUS: Our Cowboy BBQ Pinto Beans and Rice are lightly sweetened with dried apples, but no added sugar.  Like every good BBQ, they also include tomato and familiar ketchup and mustard type spices.  The flavor is similar to traditional slow cooked baked beans. Kids especially enjoy our Cowboy Pinto Beans and Rice because of the slight sweetness and mild spice.  Excellent with sauteed chard, kale, cabbage, collards, or Bok choy.

MILD & CREAMY:

DELICIOUS: Our Mild and Creamy Red Beans and Rice is the ultimate comfort food.  Mildly seasoned with the savory “holy trinity” vegetables of onion, green bell pepper and celery, this is a favorite with kids and anyone trying to avoid hot spices.  It’s made with a combination of mashed and whole beans for a smooth, creamy texture that is very soothing.  It gets creamier the more you stir.  We left out the spicy peppers (and meat of course!) so you can jazz it up as you like.  Try: fried banana, avocado, grilled veggies, salsa, cheese, or a splash of vinegar.

HEALTHY: Our simple, vegan, 100% plant-based blend of beans, rice and seasonings is high in fiber, low in saturated fat, and filled with 14-15g protein; without added sugar, or too much salt.  Our beans and rice are simply pre-cooked and dried, preserving their natural goodness.

Preparation

Microwave:

  • Empty pouch into a microwave-safe bowl.
  • Add ¾ cup cold water. (Hint: use empty pouch to measure water!)
  • Microwave on “high” 2-3 minutes until boiling rapidly.
  • Remove from heat, wait 3 minutes. Stir and enjoy!

Stove Top:

  • Empty pouch into a small pot.

Recipes

Prepare Yumbini according to package directions.  Top or combine with any (or all!) of the following:

  • Fresh, frozen or canned vegetables (whole, chopped, shredded, cooked or raw – however you like them!)
  • Bread, tortilla, naan, flatbread, pita or chips
  • Salsa, ketchup, chutney, mustard, hot sauce, barbecue sauce, salad dressing – whatever suits your fancy!
  • Pickles, pickled onion, green or black olives
  • A squeeze of lemon or lime
  • Nuts and seeds – cashews are good with Curried Turmeric, peanuts with Cowboy BBQ, or try pepitas (pumpkin seeds) with Smoky Chipotle
  • A splash of vinegar (particularly good with Mild & Creamy)
  • Vegan cheese, cream or yogurt
  • Fresh, frozen, canned or dried fruit (try mangoes, peaches, pears, apples, raisins, dried cranberries – whatever tastes good!)
  • Shredded coconut – especially tasty with Curried Turmeric!
