Southern Roots Vegan Bakery

San Antonio Natives Marcus and Cara Pitts met working in the healthcare field in 2013, once they were married Cara became a full time caregiver for her 98 year old Grandmother Mary Lee.

When Marcus made the decision to go plant based, it set Cara on a journey to create meals her grandmother who was born and raised in the South would love to enjoy and that wouldn’t lack in taste.

Through lots of trial and error playing around with ingredients and recipes she previously created and baked for years,  Cara came up with a simple yet delicious donut that friends, family and especially Mary Lee loved! Marcus and Cara regularly served in the children’s ministry at their church and started giving out what would later be Southern Roots Vegan Bakery to the kids and members of the church and it took off! With the love and support of their friends and family they started going to farmers markets and eventually made their way to Tabitha Brown’s social media which was their first viral exposure.
